“I congratulate Mark Harper on his appointment as Secretary of State for Transport. His experience as a minister across a range of government departments will be crucial in helping align government policy to maximise shipping’s contribution to the UK’s prosperity. 

The Secretary of State’s support in meeting our ambitious decarbonisation commitments will also be crucial, particularly in ensuring the IMO acts proactively and promptly in developing and adopting relevant legislation. We also need to see a commitment to working alongside the industry to ensure the industry has the skills we need and to create an environment which makes the UK the best place to do shipping.

I, along with my colleagues from the UK Chamber of Shipping, look forward to working closely with Mr Harper and his ministerial team.”
