Nick Brown appointed to UK Chamber of Shipping Supervisory Board

The UK Chamber of Shipping is delighted to announce Nick Brown, Lloyd’s Register’s (LR) Marine and Offshore Director and the incoming Group CEO from 01 January 2021, has been appointed to the Supervisory Board of the UK Chamber of Shipping.

The UK Chamber of Shipping is the voice of the UK shipping industry with nearly 200 members from across the maritime sector. The Chamber works with Government, parliament, international organisations and others to champion and protect the industry on behalf of their members.

The UK Chamber’s governing body is the Supervisory Board. It brings together around 30 senior figures in the shipping industry who oversee and guide all UK Chamber activities on behalf of the membership.

Commenting on his appointment, Nick Brown, Group CEO Designate, LR, said:

“I am proud to be joining the board of the UK Chamber during one of the most challenging times in the history of shipping. As we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, its impact on the global economy and the important transition to a zero-carbon industry, it will be a privilege to represent the views of members to help protect and create a more sustainable future for the maritime sector.”

Welcoming Nick Brown to the Supervisory Board, UK Chamber of Shipping President John Denholm said:

He will be a wonderful addition to the Supervisory Board, with specialist knowledge of marine and offshore issues, and I am delighted he has agreed to join us at such a vital time for the industry. About Nick Brown:

Nick Brown is currently Marine & Offshore Director for Lloyd’s Register Group (LR) and will become Group CEO on 1 January 2021.

Nick joined LR in 1996 as a Marine Surveyor and has worked across the business in a variety of leadership roles around the world, including President of LR’s operations in China for seven years. He has been Director for Business Development and Innovation, Marine Chief Operating Officer and most recently in 2016 he was appointed Marine and Offshore Director.


Under Nick’s leadership, LR’s classification business has experienced its most rapid growth in the company’s 260-year history. Since 2016, Nick has also led LR’s approach to maritime digitalisation and decarbonisation, collaborating with customers on new innovations. 

Nick’s focus as Group CEO will be on leading LR to meet the technical and commercial challenges facing industry today by providing the support, services and innovation needed to meet ever increasing safety, environmental and efficiency goals.

He is a Chartered Engineer, Member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering and of Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology and a Younger Brother of Trinity House.
