Funding announced for Seafarer wellbeing and skills

This week saw  the welcome announcement that £2.4 million will be allocated for projects to support seafarers’ mental wellbeing and the maritime sector. The UK Chamber of Shipping welcomed the announcement and you can read our full reaction here.

Ukraine

As members will know, the export of goods from Ukraine since Russia’s invasion has been problematic. The European Commission has launched a business matchmaking platform that aims to bring EU and Ukrainian businesses together quickly so that they may find pragmatic solutions to the export of agricultural produce from Ukraine, starting immediately.

The UK Government is supporting this initiative and more information can be found here, should this be of interest.

Freight Innovation Fund

A new £7m match-funded R&D programme called the Freight Innovation Fund has been launched.

Next Monday 27th June, an industry workshop with UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) will do some scoping for the fund, to match the needs of the industry. Chamber Members are welcome to attend. Click here for more information.

Seminar on maritime labour standards: recent developments

Join us on 28th June at WFW London office for a seminar on Employment Law challenges for the maritime industry hosted jointly by Watson Farley & Williams (WFW) and the UK Chamber of Shipping. We will be looking at a wide variety of topics relevant to employment in the maritime sector. Topics will include Sailing into Jurisdiction, UK Immigration for Seafarers and Changes to the MLC.

Maritime Safety Week

The Department for Transport has announced that Maritime Safety Week will be taking place between 4-8 July. This year’s event will have a particular focus on promoting best practice within the sector and the Chamber encourages all its members to take part. The official hashtags for the initiative are #maritimesafetymatters and #maritimesafetyweek. Please ensure you tag the Chamber in any of your social media content so we can help promote it. If members want to share their plans with the Chamber in advance, they should contact the Chamber’s Communications Director Tom Bartošák-Harlow.
