18 Mar 22 Weekly Bulletin The ferry industry was severely impacted by Covid-19, and it has been an incredibly tough two years for everyone associated with the sector, with passenger numbers yet to recover to pre-pandemic levels. It is vitally important for passengers, importers, exporters and crew that the long-term viability of ferry services is assured. We are monitoring the situation with P&O Ferries carefully, but everyone associated with the Chamber is conscious that this will be a concerning and worrying time for P&O staff and their families.IMOThe Chamber is fully committed to helping our members reach net zero by 2050 and this week we attended the IMO discussions on the development of lifecycle Green House Gas intensity guidelines. We have been lobbying for a holistic Well-to Wake approach to help the industry make fully informed decisions when assessing the sustainability of new fuels. This is a complex technical discussion, and a detailed report on the outcome of the meeting will be provided shortly to our Carbon Working Group for further consideration.
