Weekly Bulletin

The ferry industry was severely impacted by Covid-19, and it has been an incredibly tough two years for everyone associated with the sector, with passenger numbers yet to recover to pre-pandemic levels. It is vitally important for passengers, importers, exporters and crew that the long-term viability of ferry services is assured. We are monitoring the situation with P&O Ferries carefully, but everyone associated with the Chamber is conscious that this will be a concerning and worrying time for P&O staff and their families.

IMO

The Chamber is fully committed to helping our members reach net zero by 2050 and this week we attended the IMO discussions on the development of lifecycle Green House Gas intensity guidelines. We have been lobbying for a holistic Well-to Wake approach to help the industry make fully informed decisions when assessing the sustainability of new fuels. This is a complex technical discussion, and a detailed report on the outcome of the meeting will be provided shortly to our Carbon Working Group for further consideration. National Careers Week

As a leading sponsor of National Careers Week, the MNTB’s Careers at Sea campaign once again took the opportunity to highlight the exciting range of careers in maritime available to young people. Headlining Tidal Tuesday on the 8th March, we shared key information on career paths into maritime, information on courses, where to study, how to apply for a cadetship and interviews with some of our careers ambassadors and cadets in training. Engagement throughout the week was fantastic, with excellent feedback from all involved. If you are interested in finding out more on the Careers at Sea events we are planning this year, please do get in touch with Susan Bell.

Events

Finally, on 30th March we are hosting our AGM followed by a networking drinks reception. If you are a member and would like to attend the AGM, or are a non-member and would like to attend the networking drinks only, you can register here. We look forward to welcoming you here at Park Street.
