Marine Society & Sea Cadets

The Marine Society is Britain’s oldest maritime charity, originally set up to train poor boys for the Royal Navy but now focussed on providing training and support to aspiring and serving seafarers as well as those seeking to come ashore. The charity manages a number of bursaries, including the Slater Fund and the more recent Covid-19 Redundancy and Retraining fund which enable seafarers to gain their OOW and other certificates. Marine Society operates the award-winning Learn@Sea platform of online courses which reach over 6,000 seafarers internationally. It is now delivering maritime apprenticeships and qualifications for those working in shoreside roles.
