Centre Recognition

Why apply?

The Centre Recognition scheme provides independent verification for ‘best in class’ training centres, whilst also serving as a valuable quality improvement process in its own right.

To achieve recognition, a centre must meet a detailed series of good practice criteria set by the UK Chamber of Shipping, whilst also being an institution capable of providing effective training that meets identified industry needs.  The scheme is ISO9001 accredited.

How it works

Every application is given a full and thorough assessment. Should the application be rejected at this initial stage, we will provide a detailed report, identifying any missing information or unmet criteria. We will also offer support and guidance on how to reach the required standards. Re-applications are always welcome once a centre is confident that it has rectified the issues identified in the report.

Applicants who pass the initial assessment move forward to the full evaluation process, which incorporates a site visit and is subject to a separate evaluation fee. This is carried out by an assessor followed by internal verification. 

How to apply

Applications for Centre Recognition are made directly to the UK Chamber of Shipping to kathryn.neilson@mntb.org.uk.  The application form contains information on the 10 key criteria by which centres are measured, and the requirements for meeting them.

Applications are subject to a registration fee of £250 (plus VAT as applicable), which is waived for UK Chamber of Shipping members.

After completion of the evaluation process, the UK Chamber of Shipping’s Executive Board has the final authority to award recognition. Successful centres will receive the Recognition Services ‘quality mark’ to use on their course materials and across their marketing activities for an initial three-year period.
